Can you recall a time growing up in school when you so desperately wanted to be the first one picked to play a game in gym class?  You dreaded being the last one picked.  At some point we’ve all been in that situation where we just wanted to feel important and part of the team.  That deep desire children have to connect with each other is exactly the reason why we are making Elevate Teams a priority on Wednesday nights.

What happens during an Elevate Teams Wednesday night?

Children from k to 5th grade will be placed on teams that will work together discovering life applicable truth from God’s Word.  Their goal is to earn points for their team by participating in the games, by singing during the praise time, by working together during the small group activity, by memorizing scripture, and by listening to their team coach.  These points are called “E Points” and will be redeemable at the “Elevate Store”.

The Bible says the wages of sin is death.  (Romans 6:23) This isn’t talking about physical death, but spiritual death.  Spiritual death is complete separation from God after we die in a place of darkness and fire. (2 Thessalonians 1:8-10)

What is sin?

The Bible says that sin is doing anything that God doesn’t want you to do.  Anything that hurts you or those around you is sin, like cheating, stealing, fighting, and lying.  But even if you haven’t done any of those things, God says in His word that if you think something evil then you have sinned.  You see, God looks right into our hearts and knows our inner most thoughts.  “The Lord does not look at the things man looks at.  Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16: 7

How can I be saved from my sin?

John 14:6 says “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”

Just like the verse says, Jesus is the only way. Without Him we would have no hope at all.  The only way to heaven is through Jesus. He’s the only one who could pay the price for our sins because He never sinned. He was God’s only Son and He lived a sinless life.

If we accept His gift of salvation, we will get to spend forever in heaven with God when we die. Jesus explained that to the disciples in John chapter 14. Jesus told us that He’s preparing a place for us where we will be with Him forever. When God sent us Jesus he was giving us a solution to our sin problem.

But it’s important for us to know that Jesus is the only solution to our sin problem and the only way to heaven. And because Jesus Christ loves us so much He died on a cross to pay the price for our sins. We don’t have to be separated from God anymore. God offers us salvation through Jesus.

And accepting salvation is up to us. God offers us a choice. If we want to accept God’s gift of salvation it’s very simple. We call it the ABC’s of salvation…

Admit
Believe
Choose

• The letter “A” stands for the word “Admit.” We admit to God that we have sinned. This isn’t hard to do, because we’ve all sinned.
• Next, the letter “B” stands for the word “Believe.” We have to believe in God and believe in His Son Jesus. We tell God that we believe that Jesus died on a cross for our sins so that we can be forgiven and that He rose again.
• The letter “C” stands for the word “Choose.” We choose to accept the gift of salvation, we choose to follow Jesus and live our lives for God.

We say each of those things in a prayer to God and He hears us.  If you’ve already prayed this prayer before, you don’t need to do it again.  But if you haven’t, God loves you and He is knocking at the door of your heart.  Are you ready to open up and let Him in?

Prayer of Salvation

Dear God, I know that I have sinned.  I have messed up and done things that I knew were wrong.  But I believe in your Son Jesus.  I believe He lived a sinless life and died on the cross for my sins.  Please forgive me for the things I’ve done wrong.  I choose now to follow Jesus and I invite Him into my life.  Thank you so much for sending your Son, Amen.

The Creation Adventure

Beginning on Sunday Feb. 21st at 10am we are starting a new k-5th series called “The Creation Adventure.”  This series is going to walk children through the days of creation, while also teaching them the scientific data supporting Creation.  Your children won’t want to miss this exciting time as they dive head first into the mysteries of the Lord’s Creation!
